My First Mock Powerlifting Meet:

This past weekend, I competed in my first-ever mock powerlifting meet at PowerFit Training Studio in Rohnert Park, and I can confidently say it was one of the most exhilarating and eye-opening experiences of my fitness journey so far. From the adrenaline of stepping up to the platform to the camaraderie of sharing the moment with fellow lifters, it was a day I’ll never forget.

A Mental Marathon

Powerlifting competitions are much more than just moving heavy weights. They’re a mental marathon. The anticipation before each lift, the discipline required to stay focused, and the sheer energy it takes to push through nine attempts across squat, bench, and deadlift are a test of both mind and body. Competing taught me how vital mental toughness is in this sport. It’s not just about being strong; it’s about believing in yourself when the pressure is on and the bar feels impossibly heavy.

I totaled 1212 pounds, with a DOTS score of 368.43. While I’m proud of these numbers, this meet wasn’t just about the stats for me—it was about learning, growing, and showing up for the challenge.

Powerlifting as a Platform for Evangelism

One of the most exciting aspects of powerlifting for me is the opportunity to connect my faith with my sport. As a Christian, I’ve always believed that my gifts—whether in strength, coaching, or communication—are meant to glorify God.

I’ve noticed there aren’t many believers in my powerlifting circle. This meet reminded me of how much I want to use powerlifting as a platform to share the Gospel and show that faith and strength can go hand in hand. I look forward to building relationships, sharing my testimony, and being a light in this community. Powerlifting isn’t just about lifting the barbell; it’s about lifting others up and pointing them to something greater than ourselves.

Goals for the Future

This experience also motivated me to ramp up my content creation. I’ve been sitting on ideas for too long, and it’s time to let the world know what I’m about. Whether it’s training tips, behind-the-scenes insights, or sharing my faith journey, I’m committed to putting more out into the world.

To my fellow lifters: know that I’m coming for you. This meet was just the beginning. I’m hungry to keep improving, to push my total higher, and to bring intensity and purpose to every lift.

If you’re reading this and you’re on the fence about trying a meet, let me encourage you: go for it. It’s a unique way to test your limits and learn about yourself in ways you never thought possible.

Here’s to faith, strength, and a future filled with even bigger lifts and bolder conversations. Let’s keep grinding, for the glory of God and the love of the game.
